Why We Need Darkness To Sleep
Light tells us something. When it is light we know it is time to get up. And artificial light tricks our bodies into thinking that the night is over and that we should be awake and going about our business.
Modern houses have many lights, on clocks, computers, other devices. Surrounding ourselves with these tricks our bodies into staying awake when we would rather sleep. I notice this every time I visit friends in the country, something I do often. The combined effects of darker rooms, less ambient light, and less noise means I always sleep better.
Take some time to eliminate stray light from your sleeping space and you will sleep better.
