Why Did Gerard V Go To Vegas?

Gerard V in Las Vegas

On an impulse I went to Vegas for a week. What with travel times from OZ that turned into 5 nights. I might have gone longer but most weekends have shows already booked.

While there I went to 12 shows, 2 or 3 each day. 4 stage hypnotists, 4 comedy magicians and the rest pure comedy.

Q: Why did I do that?

A: I was looking for an answer.

I was trying to work out what “makes the difference” in comedy? What should I work on to take my show and performances to the next level? I had asked my colleagues but none of them seemed to have an answer.

I found the answer during a family friendly comedy magic show by Mac King. The other shows I saw were mostly great, a couple merely good, one was definitely meh! All the hypnotists I saw were good or better, and yet I could so easily do what they did, and usually do that or better.

But Mac King blew my mind. Simply because everything was quietly excellent. Not flashy, nor brash. Not high tech (though it was clever), nor was it a spectacle. But he was 100% engaging, hilariously funny, and way better than anything I had seen before.

The answer I found was not to do something a lot better, but to do everything I do a bit better. This is both inspiring and daunting. The journey continues. I’m excited! Watch this space!

Gerard V is unreal! Amazing night!!!
