Sleep, Or Do Not Sleep. There Is No *Try*
A long time ago I picked up the mantra “if you can’t sleep, don’t try” and have lived by it ever since.
Lying in bed awake and not feeling sleepy is futile. Either go to sleep or get up and do something else.
Getting up won’t affect your sleep because you are not sleeping anyway.
By getting up and distracting yourself you not only raise your chances of starting to feel sleepy, you also avoid conditioning yourself to staying awake in bed.
Developing a habit of lying awake in bed is not useful, so don’t practise it. If you cannot sleep, don’t try.
