News as Entertainment
It bugs me, the dumbing down of news, and the lack of depth. Oddly I am not the only one - here's an excerpt from a guy who blogs about tube audio - but he felt compelled to say: “Regardless of what anyone's political leanings are, all pundits and commentators compete in media space for ratings. That's how they make their money. News has been turned into theater. The better the theater, the more money they make. It's as simple as that. Information has become a product marketed for mass consumption and profit. So what! Why does that matter? It matters because it crowds out serious discussion about very serious problems. It matters because it gets people so riled up, they don't listen to reason. . .”
