There is a growing body of evidence that too much visceral belly fat increases the risk of dementia in later life.
Basically, the liver uses up a protein dealing with that belly fat. That same protein is needed for learning and memory formation. Too much belly fat limits the amount of the protein available to the brain, with long term effects.
